Track and Field Centre

Australia's premier elite sports precinct.

The AIS Track & Field Centre hosts an all-weather MONDO synthetic track of World Athletics Certification and throwing fields, in front of a 700-seat grandstand and grassed banks seating 1,500.

Athletics Carnivals

The AIS Track and Field Centre is the perfect venue to hold your school, local, district, zone, state or national carnival. The track is of World Athletics Certification, allowing for any World Records that are broken throughout an event to be recognised.

Along with the exceptional track and throwing fields, the AIS Track and Field Centre provides organisers with meeting rooms and function spaces to ensure the smooth running of every carnival.

Public Access

The AIS Track & Field Centre is open for public access throughout the week. Single tickets, books of 12 tickets and season passes for public access sessions are available for purchase at the AIS Aquatic Centre Reception or books of 12 tickets can be purchased AIS Shop online or during open hours.

Conditions of Entry and additional Throwing Conditions are in place during public access times.

Please note that as we continue to host High Performance activity, competitions and events at the AIS Track and Field Centre, opening times may be limited and are subject to change at short notice.

Track and Field Centre - Fees

The AIS Track & Field Centre is open for public access throughout the week. Single tickets, books of 12 tickets and season passes for public access sessions are available for purchase at the AIS Aquatic Centre Reception or books of 12 tickets can be purchased at the AIS Shop online or during open hours.

Concession prices available to holders of an eligible Seniors, Health, Companion or full time Student card. Season Passes cover either the period 1 October - 31 March, or 1 April - 30 September.

Conditions of entry

By entering the AIS Track & Field Centre (“venue”), a person (“patron”) acknowledges and agrees to these conditions of entry:

  • Patrons must follow directions from AIS venue staff at all times.
  • Entry to the general public is only available during public opening times.
  • Patrons must pay all applicable fees and charges.
  • Patrons must present an appropriate entry ticket, season pass or AIS-issued ID on request.
  • Children under the age of 15 years must be accompanied and supervised at all times by a responsible adult over the age of 18 years.
  • The following are not permitted within the venue at any time:
    • Smoking or e-cigarettes
    • Alcoholic beverages
    • Glass objects
    • Pets or other animals (other than assistance animals)
    • Any items that may cause public nuisance or offence
    • Abusive, disruptive or offensive behaviour or language
  • Cameras, including mobile phone cameras, are not permitted to be used in any change rooms at any time
  • Patrons enter and use the venue at their own risk.
  • The AIS takes no responsibility for any patrons lost or stolen belongings.
  • Video surveillance and recording is in operation within the venue.
  • Emergency exits must be kept clear of any obstructions at all times.
  • Patrons must use designated pathways.
  • The maximum length of any spike used on the track must not exceed 7mm.
  • Javelin, discus and shot put throwing is permitted during public opening times, subject to compliance with the additional throw conditions.
  • Hammer throwing is not permitted during public opening times.
  • The AIS reserves the right to refuse entry to any person.
  • The AIS may evict any patron who the AIS venue staff deem to have failed to comply with any of these conditions.
  • These conditions are subject to change by the AIS.

Throws during public opening times

Hammer throwing is not permitted during public opening times.

Javelin, discus, and shot-put throwing is permitted during public opening times, subject to the following additional conditions:

  • All throws during public opening times must be supervised by a coach accredited by Athletics Australia to at least Level 1 Community Athletics Coach level (“Accredited Athletics Coach”).
  • An Accredited Athletics Coach is not permitted to supervise throws unless they have provided the AIS with evidence of their accreditation and acknowledged and agreed to these conditions.
  • Prior to supervising throws at any visit, an Accredited Athletics Coach must alert AIS venue staff as to their presence.
  • The Accredited Athletics Coach accepts responsibility for the safe conduct of their athletes while throwing.
  • Coaches and athletes must always consider the safety of all other persons in the venue at all times.
  • Throws are not permitted when any other person has entered the field area.
  • Coaches and athletes must not adjust the netting within the throws cage at any time. Any adjustment to the netting may only be undertaken by AIS venue staff.
  • The AIS reserves the right to stop throws at any time.

Spike Usage

The maximum length of any spike used on the track itself must not exceed 7mm.

Longer spikes may be used at the High Jump, Long Jump and Triple Jump sites as per World Athletics rules. However, if athletes are going to do their warm up on the track they will need to use spikes no longer than 7mm.
