Minerva Sports Governance Mentoring Program

As part of its commitment to gender equity and effective governance, the ASC has joined forces with the Minerva Network to deliver tailored support for women and gender diverse NSO/D directors.

The collaboration will connect women and gender diverse directors with experienced mentors and networks, helping them to navigate board environments and maximise their contribution to the organisation’s governance and culture.

Target Audience

Women and/or gender diverse NSO/D directors, preferably in their first term as a director (up to 30 mentorships available).

Eligibility

To be eligible, individuals must be:

  • A current director of an NSO/D
  • A woman or gender diverse person

NSO/D commitment

The mentoring program is intended to both support women and gender diverse directors and facilitate inclusive boardroom environments. To enable this, an NSO/D that has a director participating in the program must commit to participating in:

  • a board-inclusive governance and leadership workshop*
  • individual 360-degree director evaluations

*Where an NSO/D has engaged in this activity via another program (e.g. ICDA scholarship program), the ASC will work with the organisation to identify bespoke workshop content that meets their needs.

Individual commitment

Applicants must:

  • Commit to full participation as per the Minerva Mentee Commitment agreement
  • Submit a letter of support from the NSO/D Chair (supporting evidence to the individual’s suitability and organisation's commitment to the additional program elements)
  • Join the Women in Governance ‘community of practice’ to share learnings, contribute to governance enhancement and provide support to other directors
  • Participate in the program review/evaluation (undertaken by the ASC)

Time commitment

  • Undertake a minimum of four mentee/mentor meetings in a 12-month period
  • Complete mentoring check-in (reviews) via feedback form at 1 month, 6 month and 12-month intervals.

Assessment

Applications will be assessed by a panel against the program application questions with priority given to applicants who:

  • Are serving on an NSO/D board for the first time
  • Have not had the opportunity for formal mentoring in their role as a director
  • Have been elected or appointed to an NSO/D board in the previous 18 months
  • ASC’s ICDA Diploma of Governance course or are a member of the 2026 program

As part of the application, individuals will be required to submit responses to the attached questions via the 'Apply for the program' button below and provide evidence of/confirm their ability to participate fully in the program.
