ASC and Australian Army strengthen ties
Kieren Perkins OAM has reinforced the Australian Sports Commission (ASC)’s partnership with the Department of Defence (Army).

Since 2018 the ASC and the Army have had a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in place focused on what elite soldiers, athletes and their teams can learn from each other.
This week the ASC CEO signed a reinvigorated MOU with Chief of Army, LTGEN Simon Stuart in Canberra.
The 2025 partnership keeps “performance” at its core. It also outlines new priorities including transitioning in and out of elite environments, concussion management and resilience.
Among other joint activities, the partnership welcomes army personnel to the AIS campus to share, learn and chase greater performance outcomes.
Both organisations share interest in emerging research and technology that supports human performance at individual, team and organisational levels.
“The Australian Army and the Australian Sports Commission have been partners since 2018,” Perkins said.
“This update to our Memorandum of Understanding reflects the value we've gained through collaboration, and the promise we see in continuing to work together.
“The latest MOU has three pillars: Individual Performance, Team Performance and Organisational Performance. These pillars offer plenty of scope for exciting initiatives and knowledge sharing.”
The ASC has several domestic and international MOUs in place to lead and enable the world's best sport system ahead of Brisbane 2032- and beyond.
