Around 50 people attended an information session at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) campus in Bruce to learn more about the AIS Podium Project.

The once-in-a-generation redevelopment will deliver three new world-class high performance facilities:

  • a multi-storey, fully para-accessible athlete accommodation building
  • an indoor Sport Dome providing 24/7 all-weather training for track and field athletes
  • a new High Performance Testing and Training Centre equipped with state-of-the-art technology to support athlete development

The session held yesterday gave nearby residents and facility users the opportunity to hear more about the project and ask questions.

Topics raised included ongoing access to the pool during redevelopment and the decision to demolish the original AIS athlete accommodation building, which has housed Australia’s Olympians, Paralympians and Commonwealth Games athletes since October 1985.

Many attendees said they were excited to see the work underway to upgrade the site.
