The AIS synthetic field has reopened with high performance and community sport groups alike able to train and play on a surface fit for international competition.

The multi-sport field was temporarily closed in January to upgrade the turf, with regular surface replacements required to keep the facility, which opened in 2014 in top shape.

More than 8,000 square metres of LigaTurf Cross 250 FIFA Quality-certified turf has been installed over a new shockpad to aid absorption and enhance performance.

Organic infill made from renewable pine wood also makes the surface cooler to play on in hot weather.

The work also included installing new goals, behind-goal fencing and replacing player shelters.

Sustainability was front of mind for the upgrades with the previous playing surface and shockpad recycled at a dedicated facility in Victoria.

The new pitch reopened on 1 July with local soccer clubs among the first to take to the turf.

The upgrades are part of our broader AIS Campus Masterplan – our long-term vision to ensure the AIS Campus continues to evolve as Australia’s world leading high performance sport precinct.

This work includes the AIS Podium Project – the construction of three new key high performance sport facilities to support athletes and sports on the road to Brisbane 2032 and beyond.
