Play Well Leadership Group - Expression of Interest

The Australian Sports Commission is seeking Expressions of Interest from experienced leaders to join the Play Well Leadership Group for Horizon 2 of Play Well – Australia’s Sport Participation Strategy. 

Horizon 2 focuses on activating the strategy by supporting practical implementation, stronger collaboration and system-wide change across schools, clubs, communities, governments and sporting organisations. 

About the Play Well Leadership Group

The Play Well Leadership Group provides independent strategic advice, sector insight and constructive challenge to support the implementation, evolution and long-term impact of Play Well. The group is advisory and does not hold decision-making authority.

Who Should Apply

We are seeking people with strategic leadership experience, collaborative mindsets and a commitment to improving sport participation outcomes for all Australians. 

Applicants may bring expertise from within or beyond sport, including community sport, education, research, public health, inclusion, infrastructure, governance, communications, technology, innovation, consumer engagement or lived experience. 

The ASC strongly encourages applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people from culturally and linguistically diverse communities, people with disability, LGBTQI+ people, people of all ages, and people living in metropolitan, regional and remote communities. 

What Members Do

  • Provide strategic advice on Horizon 2 priorities, implementation and activation. 
  • Offer evidence-informed insights on opportunities, risks and participation challenges. 
  • Support collaboration and alignment across the sport system. 
  • Contribute to evaluation, learning and continuous improvement. 

Membership and Term

The Leadership Group will include 9 to 12 members, including a Chair, two State and Territory Partner representatives, and six to nine members appointed through the EOI process.

The group meets quarterly, with meetings held predominantly in person where possible. Members may attend by video conference when required.

Expressions of Interest can be completed online via a Qualtrics form that will be published on this page once applications are open and be included in the launch material for Horizon 2 of the strategy.

  • Responses to the application questions outlined below. 

Application Questions 

  1. What motivates you to join the Play Well Leadership Group, and how do you believe you can contribute to the successful activation of Horizon 2? 
  2. What expertise, perspectives and/or lived experience would you bring to the Leadership Group? 
  3. Describe an example where you have successfully influenced collaboration, led system change, or worked across multiple stakeholders to achieve meaningful outcomes. 
  4. Looking ahead, what do you see as the greatest opportunity - or greatest challenge - for increasing participation in sport and activating Play Well over the next three years?

Selection Process

Appointments will be made through a merit-based selection process, considering strategic leadership, relevant expertise, systems thinking, collaboration, constructive challenge and diversity of experience, perspectives and lived experience.
