More than 900 women supported through 2021 Women Leaders in Sport Program

23 June 2021

The Women Leaders in Sport (WLIS) Program has more than doubled its support in 2021 with over 900 women across 50 sports benefiting from the program in the first six months. Delivered by Sport Australia and the AIS, the WLIS program supports women in the workforce and in High-Performance.

On the workforce side, 293 women have been invited to a leadership workshop which is an 83% increase from 2020 and 84 individuals have been offered grants for career-related courses which is a 53% increase.

Furthermore, more than 400 women have been invited to take part in personal development programs with a strong focus on securing senior positions.

In High-Performance, 18 women are now undertaking the Talent Program and a further 18 have been chosen for the inaugural Accelerate Athlete Program, which commenced on 1 June.

Sport Australia Acting CEO Rob Dalton has congratulated the 2021 WLIS grant recipients. “We’re delighted to be able to help a record number of incredibly talented women reach their leadership potential in sport through providing genuine development opportunities,” Mr Dalton said.

“We thank the Australian Government for supporting such a powerful initiative with $3.4 million committed over the next four financial years. This commitment allows us to expand our offerings to support the next generation of female sports leaders.”
