Developing and sustaining effective governance practices
23 June 2021
A key priority for Sport Australia is to improve industry capability, by supporting National Sporting Organisations (NSOs) to continually improve governance arrangements.
As part of this support, we have developed the evolved Sport-Governance-Framework.pdf (SGP) a framework for improving awareness, acceptance and performance of sporting governance. These principles are underpinned by the SGS-2024-Final.pdf, through which the governance maturity of NSOs is assessed. You can find more information on Sports Governance on our Governance page.
In order to assist sporting organisations to develop and sustain effective governance practices, Sport Australia has begun the process of assisting each funded NSO and NSOD to develop their own Governance and Organisational Enhancement (GOE) Plan. This plan aims to identify areas where each organisation can improve governance practices, and also takes into account insights from the recent Sports Governance Benchmarking Report, found on our Sports Governance page to address areas of need for the sector. A governance adviser from Sport Australia will assist each organisation to develop these plans, ensuring they are a valuable and practical tool for the organisation. The GOE Plans will be in place for each organisation by 1st July, providing a 12 month action plan to support each organisation to improve the identified areas of their governance practices.
