How can sport use AusPlay?

12 June 2019

AusPlay is a national sport and physical activity telephone survey that is funded and led by Sport Australia.

It is conducted by computer assisted telephone interviewing using a questionnaire that was designed in consultation with the sport sector. The annual target sample size for AusPlay is 20,000 adults aged 15 years and over, and approximately 3,600 children aged 0-14 years.

Data collection is continuous, with approximately 400 interviews conducted every week, all year round. Over 70,000 interviews have been conducted since AusPlay’s inception in October 2015.

AusPlay data can be used to:

  • Understand the participation landscape and identify strategies to grow participation
  • Track trends in sport and physical activity participation over time
  • Measure and report against government and sport key performance indicators
  • Benchmark participation in activities against other sports and physical activities.

AusPlay data and insights can be accessed through the results pages on the Clearinghouse for Sport.
