NSW regional sports academy smashing their fundraising out of the park

17 February 2021

The Illawarra Academy of Sport (IAS) has taken out the top spot in the recent Play for Purpose charity raffle, achieving a top-ranking sport partner in the raffle drawn on 18 December 2020.

The IAS celebrated strong ticket sales during the 12-week raffle, with the fundraising tool allowing the Academy to raise funds and get their athletes involved in a no-fuss raffle!

The Play for Purpose Raffle supports community sporting clubs to achieve their fundraising goal by providing an online raffle with a prize pool valued at $300k and more than 300 prize winners in each raffle. Play for Purpose has raised over $250,000 for sport since 2019.

Play for Purpose is proud to partner with Sport Australia and the Australian Sports Foundation to support fundraising in the community sport sector, the online raffle is a free tool offered to clubs across Australia (excluding WA).

“Play for Purpose is proud to support over 300 community sport clubs and groups that have joined our platform. Sporting clubs and organisations are encouraged to nominate a charitable project and engage with Play for Purpose to help them achieve their individual fundraising goals,” said 50-50 Foundation Director, John Corry.

IAS utilised the “Champions” feature of Play for Purpose to pit their squads against each other to introduce some healthy competition into their fundraising.

“We were pleasantly surprised by the fundraising success through the Play For Purpose raffle. Our athletes and coaches used their social networks to promote the raffle and we provided a small incentive for the team with the highest ticket sales. It was a simple approach and thanks to the efficiency of Play for Purpose we achieved a great result.”

“Play for Purpose is easy to use and provides a fundraising solution for our time poor supporters who may not be able to attend events or participate in other fundraising activities. It requires very little resources from our organisation and provides our supporters with the chance to win great prizes at no cost to us. We are excited to continue our partnership with Play for Purpose into the future” said IAS CEO, John Armstrong.
