One Sailing, and its successful programs, would not be possible without the collaboration and contribution of all stakeholders.
In 2016, Australian Sailing and their State and Territory associations agreed to embark on a process to improve the national governance and operating model of sailing for the long-term benefit of the sport. Known as “One Sailing”, Australian Sailing and the State and Territory Associations committed to provide a management framework that optimises the prospects of the success of sailing in Australia.
This shared commitment focused on three principles:
The implementation of One Sailing has produced a more efficient and sustainable operating model to support the sport to deliver nationally aligned participation and high performance programs in an effective manner.
Sport Australia, in collaboration with Australian Sailing, recently undertook an analysis to quantify the benefits One Sailing has delivered for the sport. Findings from the analysis include:
When combined, these findings led to a quantified benefit of circa $800,000 per annum to the sport nationally, due to the implementation of One Sailing.
“Sailing recognised that it needed to evolve. The changes were significant and will hopefully underpin a strong future for the sport at all levels, from participation at club level to Olympic success” said Australian Sailing Chief Executive Officer Ben Houston.
In an increasingly competitive sporting environment, which requires sports to adopt contemporary, best practice governance and operating models, Sport Australia acknowledges the leaders within the sailing community who have continually demonstrated a commitment to share their learnings and experiences from the One Sailing reform process.
