Sport Governance Principles – coming 2020

18 December 2019

The Sport Governance team have immersed themselves in the sector to learn directly from people using the Sport Governance Principles to co-create an evolution of the Principles for 2020.

Over three phases of sector-led engagement, the team sought to understand the challenges of modern sport governance across the country and in the diverse range of organisations that underpin our sector. The three phases integrated the following engagement and consultation:

  • Face to face workshops involving 153 individuals from 52 sports;
  • Online Jams involving over 500 individuals from 70 sports; and
  • Three detailed design labs across principles content and design, education, support and resources, and evaluation and assurance.

These phases seek to identify opportunities for the evolution as well as possible solutions to modernise and support implementation, education and accountability.

As the Sport Governance team approaches the final stages of collaboration and engagement with the sector, the principles and governance framework will now be reviewed with our State and Territory partners, a select group of National Sporting Organisations and the Australian Sports Commission Board, prior to a launch in March 2020.
