The Women Leaders in Sport Workshops have concluded for 2019 with the last of the workshops being held in sunny Darwin, and many participants swapping scarves for swimmers and enjoying the personal development opportunity.
The workshops are part of the Women Leaders in Sport program, with the program becoming a product of a successful partnership between Sport Australia and the Office for Women. The main objective of the program is to provide women within the sport industry with development opportunities to help in reaching their leadership potential.
In 2019 Sport Australia successfully hosted seven individual and two organisational workshops across the country. This year the program benefitted more than 170 women from over 40 sports from netball to motorsport, as well as selected staff from Sport Australia.
This year, individuals had the opportunity to attend one of the seven workshops held in five major cities (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Darwin) as well as two three-day organisation workshops which allowed groups of women from five different sporting organisations (Netball Australia, Pony Club Australia, Artistic Swimming Australia, Motorcycling Australia & Rugby Australia) to attend and work collaboratively in the workshop environment.
Sue Cormack returned as our facilitator and received glowing feedback relating to her delivery of the content. The workshops are designed to give opportunity to the women to share ideas and issues, to network with other potential women leaders in sport, and to develop clearer leadership direction. This is done through exploring different leadership styles and introducing techniques to combat common hurdles in the race to the top. 100% of the participants found the content delivered during the workshop helpful in enhancing their leadership knowledge and development.
“Very well presented. The workshop allowed me to me to feel more confident to be a leader in my team, but also in giving feedback. It was the perfect blend of listening, collaboration, team work, information sharing and not a role play in sight”
Applications for the 2020 Women Leaders in Sport grants and workshops are now open.
