AIS proud to support world class National Throws Centre of Excellence

The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) has welcomed the opening of the National Throws Centre of Excellence, a collaboration between the AIS, Queensland Academy of Sport, Athletics Australia and Queensland Government.

The world class facility at the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre south of Brisbane provides three dedicated areas for multiple throws disciplines, including para-sport, and indoor training, as well as technology to capture and analyse technique in real-time.
AIS Acting Director Matti Clements said the COE provides a major competitive advantage for Australian athletes and coaches
“The AIS is proud to have worked alongside the QAS and Athletics Australia to deliver this facility, which will have a long lasting impact on Australian sport.
“In 2020, the AIS, through the Australian Government, invested $2m in Athletics Australia as part of an overall $11.5m sport infrastructure funding commitment. The $850,000 contributed by the AIS for the National Throws COE will not only support our current athletes, but nurture new talent.
“The COE is the only facility of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, allowing our athletes and coaches to train and prepare on home soil for the golden decade ahead, which includes Paris 2024, a home Commonwealth Games in 2026, and, of course, Brisbane 2032.
“The Australian High Performance Sport System is united in the ambition to create sustainable sporting success to inspire and motivate Australians for generations to come. I look forward to continuing to work alongside with our partners in sport to allow our athletes and coaches to continue to win well on the world stage.”
