The AIS Arena COVID-19 Mass Vaccination Clinic has closed its doors after administering more than 288,000 COVID-19 vaccinations to the ACT community.
The vaccination clinic at the AIS Arena opened in September last year and has helped make Canberra one of the most vaccinated cities in the world.
Australian Sports Commission (ASC) CEO Kieren Perkins OAM said the ASC was pleased to support the ACT’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout.
“Our staff worked closely with ACT Health to ensure the Arena was an appropriate vaccination site to help the community during the pandemic,” he said.
“The vaccination clinic played an important role in helping the Canberra community protect themselves against COVID-19 and we were glad to play a small role in this.
“The AIS Arena will now undergo some restoration work to enable it to host community and sporting events again in the future.”
The clinic which was run by ACT Health and supported by ASC facilities staff vaccinated more than 3,000 people a day in its busiest weeks and employed around 110 nurses each day.
More than 97 per cent of eligible Canberrans aged five and over have now received two vaccine doses and nearly 78 per cent of those aged 16 and over have received three doses.
Canberrans eligible for a fourth COVID-19 vaccine can contact their GP or pharmacy to book an appointment for a free fourth dose.
