ASC putting Australian sport research in the spotlight
The Australian Sports Commission is strengthening its commitment to sport research with a new project to promote collaboration and coordination across the sector.

The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) is further strengthening its commitment to sport research in Australia by unveiling a new project to promote greater collaboration and coordination of the research effort across the sector.
The National Sport Research Agenda (NSRA) brings the Australian sport sector together to identify and provide guidance on priority areas of research for sporting organisations, academics, researchers, research funding bodies and governments.
Hosted on the Clearinghouse for Sport website, the NSRA will make the sector’s agreed research priorities visible to more industry stakeholders across Australia and improve alignment and efficiency of research investment and effort.
A register of sport research will also improve the visibility of research projects across the sector.
The NSRA will be supported by a National Advisory Group made up of sport sector representatives who will target the sector’s policy challenges and uncover knowledge gaps.
“The ASC is providing strong sector leadership in gaining consensus on priority areas of research for Australian sport. We are working closely with our partners to build a more cohesive research and knowledge sharing community for sport,” ASC CEO Kieren Perkins OAM said.
“We already invest strongly in high performance and community sport research through our national AusPlay and Community Perceptions Monitor surveys and AIS research grants.”
“As we begin the Green and Gold decade towards Brisbane 2032, we see the NSRA as a natural next step to align our resources and knowledge to benefit Australian sport at all levels.”
Over 30 participants from across sport, government and academia attended workshops earlier this year to help co-design the NSRA and identify themes and research priorities.
“We look forward to working alongside our sector partners to provide greater visibility of the national research effort and partnerships, identify further opportunities for collaboration and attract additional investment in sports research from across sport and its adjacent sectors.”
“Together we can work to grow and share our knowledge and evidence-base to promote the value and benefits of sport to all Australians.”
