Busy start to 2025: AIS campus buzzing with training camps
It’s been an action-packed start to the year at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), with more than 600 athletes, coaches and staff on-site in January for 20 high performance camps across 11 sports.

It’s been an action-packed start to the year at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), with more than 600 athletes, coaches and staff on-site in January for 20 high performance camps across 11 sports.
From hosting the Australian men’s water polo team to several pathway camps across athletics, swimming, judo and more, the Canberra campus was a hive of activity in January as athletes made the most of facilities, including the high performance gym, recovery centre and dining hall.
Starting 2025 strong was Netball Australia’s Diamonds squad, who came together to start preparing for major events, including the 2026 Commonwealth Games and the 2027 World Cup in Sydney.
“Having a camp straight after the new year was a good opportunity for us to really refine our game plan, focus on our values as a team, and really make sure we're continuing to build those connections as a squad,” Diamonds goal shooter Cara Koenen said.

Diamonds vice-captain Paige Hadley added: “I think every opportunity in the green and gold at camp is a blessing.
“I love being a part of this group, learning new skills and seeing where I'm at physically and mentally.”
As the netballers ran the courts, Boxing Australia’s elite made the most of the AIS Combat Centre, while Swimming Australia took to the pool, holding three camps with the next generation of the Australian Dolphins.
Archery also had a big presence, hosting two training camps as well as the 2025 World Archery Para Championship Trials.

As always, supporting each sport during their camp experience is an extensive team of AIS Performance Support staff helping teams in areas such as strength and conditioning and recovery.
