The Australian Sports Commission’s annual Sports Technology and Applied Research Symposium (STARS) explores how Australia can accelerate innovation on the road to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The free virtual event will feature insights from global thought leaders, technologists, and the next generation of PhD students working in AI.

Taking place from October 22–24, registrations are now open at Sports Technology and Applied Research Symposium.

Key topics exploring the theme "Seven years to shine: The innovation sprint to 2032" include:

  • How international sports are integrating sport science
  • How coaches can leverage technology
  • Quantum science’s growing role in elite sport
  • Effective analysis and application of athlete data
  • The role of AI in both grassroots and high performance sport

Francesco Rulli, who is known for driving innovation with social impact, is one of the keynote speakers.

"There is nothing greater in life than empowering others to succeed. Artificial Intelligence is my tool of choice to help people achieve their personal aspirations," the Founder and CEO of AI tech firm Querlo said.

Rulli will present a Querlo project: a digital twin of AIS High Performance Coach Development Advisor Dr Paul Perkins. Designed to preserve and share Dr Perkins' coaching insights, this digital replica enables future coaches to interact with his expertise in a dynamic and accessible way.

Other featured speakers include:

  • Grace Brown, Olympic and World Champion cyclist, reflecting on how technology shaped her eight-year elite sporting career
  • Mike Levine, Senior Director of Performance Pathways and Innovation at the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee, on how Team USA is using tech to gain a competitive edge
  • Allison Savich, Strategic Lead in Innovation and Digital at Sport England, discussing the organisation’s people-first approach to digital transformation—and how it is breaking down systemic barriers to physical activity

Whether you work in coaching, research or sports tech development, STARS 2025 offers a rare opportunity to engage with the latest ideas shaping the future of sport.
