Women in sport: apply now to supercharge your career with WLIS

Women who work in sport and are looking to boost their careers can now apply for a share of $200,000 in grants through the Australian Sports Commission’s (ASC) Women Leaders in Sport (WLIS) program.  

Individual grants of up to $10,000 are available for women administrators, coaches, officials, athletes or volunteers to undertake courses that build on existing skills and unlock opportunities for influence and growth. 

After completing a leadership and management course through a WLIS grant, Fremantle Dockers AFLW player Hayley Miller says the skills she learned created new opportunities off-field. 

“The professional development gave me the confidence to jump into a whole new side of my non-sporting career as a physiotherapist that I didn’t even know existed”. 

Previous recipients range from CEOs to grassroots volunteers who have sought further education in areas such as management, sports administration, communications, coaching and officiating, equity, diversity and inclusion, people and culture, integrity, finance and sport science. 

The ASC is also seeking expressions of interest for its WLIS leadership workshops.  

A seven-week online program, the workshops provide individuals with contemporary leadership techniques, imparts valuable insights into the sports world, and fosters connections among women from every corner of the country. 

The WLIS program, which has been running for 23 years, supports women to strengthen their leadership skills and advance their impact in sport to help build a more balanced and inclusive leadership landscape. 

To date, the program which is managed by the ASC and funded by the Australian Government has supported more than 27,000 women and more than 800 sporting organisations. 

Expressions of interest for both the WLIS individual grants and leadership workshops close on Friday 14 November.
