Megan

Biography

Megan is a passionate and innovative leader in classical ballet training, dancer development and dancer management. She is an internationally recognised expert in vocational ballet training and education, dance rehabilitation methods and classical ballet pedagogy with more than 30 years’ experience.

Megan received her early dance training in Melbourne from luminaries such as Ann Woolliams and Gailene Stock CBE AM and later was greatly influenced by her training at the Princess Grace Academy in Monte Carlo where she studied the Vaganova and French systems of training. Megan joined The Australian Ballet in 1991 under the Directorship of Maina Gielgud, performing in many works such as Sleeping Beauty, Romeo and Juliet, Don Quixote, Giselle, Symphony in C and Etudes, among many others. Later, she followed her lifelong passion for teaching, joining the artistic teaching teams of The Australian Ballet (under the directorship of David McAllister AC) and the Australian Ballet School (under the directorship of Marilyn Rowe AM OBE and later, Lisa Pavane).

Megan's diverse experience includes several years as Assistant to Artistic Director, David McAllister AC, during which time she also trained in allied dance health and co-authored the book, Bodywise. She has always been passionately driven to support the health and wellbeing of dancers and for over 15 years held the role of Repetiteur and Rehabilitation Specialist with The Australian Ballet. It was this role, in particular, where Megan was embedded in both the health and artistic teams of the company that enabled her to develop unique and holistic approaches to dancer health and wellbeing, exploring the intersection of dance medicine, technical refinement, artistic depth, and expressive freedom.

Megan was awarded a Churchill Scholarship in 2014 to conduct a worldwide study in dance training, coaching and rehabilitation methods at major international ballet schools and companies enabling her to benchmark both The Australian Ballet and the Australian Ballet School against the best in world. She was part of the team that rehabilitated The Australian Ballet’s current Artistic Director, David Hallberg, to return to the stage after a complex injury that almost ended his career as a Principal dancer with American Ballet Theatre and the Bolshoi ballet.

In 2024 Megan was appointed Artistic Director and Head of School, becoming the 5th director in the Australian Ballet School’s 60-year history.
