Sport Halls of Fame

Sport halls of fame honour those who have performed at an elite level or made a significant contribution to their sport.

Sport halls of fame recognise the achievements of individuals (and sometimes teams) who have performed at a high level during their careers and contributed to significant moments in their sport. While most focus on athletes, they may also include administrators, coaches, officials, or sports science and medicine professionals. In Australia, most sport halls of fame do not have a dedicated physical location.

Sport Australia Hall of Fame (SAHOF)

Established in 1985, the Sport Australia Hall of Fame, opens in a new tab holds an annual awards night and has inducted over 500 of Australia’s sporting greats. Membership into the SAHOF is limited exclusively to the top echelon of athletes and those that play a supportive role. The Australian Sports Museum, opens in a new tab features a display recognising these inductees.

Australian Paralympic Hall of Fame

Paralympics Australia established the Australian Paralympic Hall of Fame, opens in a new tab to honour individuals who have contributed to Paralympic success, raised the profile of Paralympic sport, and supported its impact on Australian society.

Australian Capital Territory Sport Hall of Fame

Launched in 1995, the ACT Sport Hall of Fame, opens in a new tab recognises athletes, officials, coaches, and administrators from the region for excellence in their field and their contribution to the sporting community.

New South Wales Hall of Champions

The NSW Hall of Champions, opens in a new tab is a sports museum and hall of fame, paying tribute to NSW's greatest athletes. In November 2017, the NSW Sports Awards presentation and the NSW Hall of Champions Induction Ceremony were combined to create the NSW Champions of Sport, opens in a new tab.

Northern Territory Hall of Champions

The Northern Territory Hall of Champions, opens in a new tab honours the Territory’s greatest athletes. In addition to recognising sporting excellence, it aims to preserve and promote the Northern Territory’s sporting identity and history.

Queensland Sport Hall of Fame

Established in 2009, the Queensland Sport Hall of Fame, opens in a new tab inducts outstanding Queenslanders and includes a ‘Legend of Queensland Sport, opens in a new tab’ status awarded to selected members.

South Australian Sport Hall of Fame

Induction into the South Australian Sport Hall of Fame, opens in a new tab represents the highest level of recognition. This accolade recognises and promotes the outstanding achievements of South Australia’s greatest athletes and general members who have made significant contributions to sport and South Australia.

Tasmanian Sporting Hall of Fame

The Tasmanian Sporting Hall of Fame, opens in a new tab recognises and celebrates exceptional Tasmanians who have represented their state and country with distinction.

Western Australian Hall of Champions

Launched on 19 August 1985, the WA Hall of Champions, opens in a new tab honours athletes who have achieved sporting success at the highest level and are recognised either as products of the WA sporting system, or for having established their reputation while residing in the state.

Stadium Australia Hall of Fame

Launched on 15 September 2025, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the opening ceremony of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, the Stadium Australia Hall of Fame, opens in a new tab honours the legends who have graced its grounds and created unforgettable moments since the venue first opened in 1999. The selection process is overseen by an independent judging panel, with further inductions scheduled for 2027, 2029, and 2031.
