About

The Clearinghouse for Sport (Clearinghouse) is the information and knowledge sharing platform for Australian sport.

The Clearinghouse brings together Australia’s leading sport and active recreation agencies—using the Australian Sports Commission as the principal information coordination point—to share news, evidence and insights about sport, human performance, and physical activity.

Much of the content is freely accessible, and everyone is encouraged to explore the wide range of publicly available resources.

Access to some resources is restricted to individuals working in the Australian sport sector due to licensing, copyright, or privacy conditions and could require Clearinghouse membership. If you believe you should have access, please contact us.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

A 'clearinghouse' (or 'information clearinghouse') is a function of a leading agency (or network of leading agencies) associated with research and information. It provides a single, coordinated point for users to access information and related services, share knowledge, and improve evidence-based decision making.

The Clearinghouse for Sport (Clearinghouse) collects and shares information and resources relevant to sport. It aims to make that information available to people and groups working, or interested, in sport, active recreation, or other related fields.

As a central access point for the Australian sport sector, the Clearinghouse aims to provide information and evidence in an audience appropriate manner to support the development and transfer of knowledge in the sector.

The Clearinghouse works to:

  • Identify and acquire information of relevance to the Australian sport sector.
  • Connect people in sport with complementary expertise.
  • Inform sports practitioners (such as athletes, coaches, physical educators, scientists, researchers, administrators, volunteers, and sporting officials) about good and promising practice.
  • Provide Australian governments at all levels with comprehensive and policy relevant analysis of research relating to sport, and the value of sport to the Australian community.
  • Provide the Australian community with high quality information on sport and physical activity.

The Clearinghouse shares news, evidence, and insights about sport, human performance, and physical activity. Much of the content is freely accessible including:

  • The Daily Sports News
  • Evidence base topics
  • Data and insights from AusPlay, the Australian sport and physical activity participation survey
  • Recruitment and events listings
  • Selected, open access videos, networks, documents, and data sources

Some secure and licenced resources are only available to those working in the Australian sport sector, including:

  • Full text electronic journals and research databases
  • Videos*
  • Sports publications archive
  • Research profiles and library references services*
  • Secure network resources*

*There may be additional access requirements for some resources, including being a member of a specific group or profession working in Australian sport. For more information, please visit the Member access page or contact us today.

Much of the Clearinghouse content is freely accessible, and everyone is encouraged to explore the wide range of publicly available resources. Due to licensing arrangements with commercial publishers’ access to some Clearinghouse services and resources is restricted to individuals working in the Australian sport sector. Access to content may also be restricted in instances where content owners are required to comply with copyright, privacy, and/or commercial in-confidence obligations.

If you are unsure what Clearinghouse services and resources you can access, please contact us.

Secure and licenced resources are available only to those working in the Australian sport sector. This includes people who work full-time, part-time, or volunteer in a:

  • Federal, state, or territory government department or agency of sport
  • National Institute Network (NIN) organisation (e.g. ACT Academy of Sport)
  • National or state peak body (recognised by the Australian Sports Commission as a Games or Participation partner, e.g. Australian Olympic Committee, Paralympics Australia, Invictus Australia)
  • National sporting organisation (recognised by the Australian Sports Commission, e.g. Australian Athletics)
  • State sporting organisation (affiliated with a recognised National Sporting Organisation, e.g. NSW Athletics)
  • Sports club (professional or community sport club, regional academy of sport)

If none of these categories apply to you, there is no need to register. If you are unsure, please contact us.

Eligible individuals who work in the Australian sport sector can join the Clearinghouse for Sport for FREE by following the process on the Member Access page. This includes creating – or logging into – a Sport Connect account and then completing the Member access form to confirm your role in the Australian sport sector and acknowledge and agree to the Clearinghouse conditions of use. To help us validate your role in the sport sector, it is recommended you use your work email. Once this process has been completed, your information will be reviewed and verified, usually within one to two business days, and you will then gain access to Clearinghouse secure and licenced resources.

Sport Connect is the ASC's secure digital identity service. It allows you to log in using a personal or work email, or an existing Microsoft, Google, or Apple account. This system provides a more consistent and flexible login experience across ASC platforms.

People who need to access secure and licensed content on the Clearinghouse will need to be registered for Sport Connect before they can complete the Clearinghouse Member Access form.

Some areas or content on the Clearinghouse are restricted to specific users or groups, due to licensing, copyright, privacy, and/or commercial in-confidence obligations. This may include some Network Resources, videos, archived documents, or services. Network Resources on the Clearinghouse provide a useful way for organisations, committees, and formal or informal working groups to connect, share ideas, and exchange knowledge and resources—either openly or through secure channels—to support the development of sport. Some Network Resources are available publicly, while others require login or membership due to licensing, copyright, or privacy conditions. Restricted networks may only be available to those working in specific roles within the Australian sport sector. If you think you should have access to a specific resource, service, or network – or would like to create a network for your organisation or professional group – please contact us.

The Clearinghouse is a sector-wide knowledge sharing initiative, and your contributions are encouraged and appreciated.

You can share your news, submit a job vacancy, or information about an event via the forms on the contact us page. If you have a resource, report, or research that you think is relevant to a Clearinghouse Evidence Base topic you can let us know via the Enquiry form or by emailing clearinghouse@ausport.gov.au. Clearinghouse staff will then review and evaluate the information to determine if and how we can include it within the Evidence Base or other information resources.

You can also tag or follow the Clearinghouse for Sport LinkedIn, opens in a new tab page where we share information on new research, reports, and good and promising practice.

Information on the Clearinghouse is maintained by Clearinghouse staff and, where possible, reviewed by partners or experts within the Australian sport sector. If you would like to suggest a resource, submit a publication, or provide feedback on a specific topic, please contact us.

In June 2025 the Clearinghouse website underwent a major refresh. Some content and links have changed or moved. Please contact us with the details of the URL or name of the resource you are trying to access and we will provide you with the correct link or information on the status of the resource.
