Netball
First Nations, opens in a new tab, Netball Australia, (accessed 18 August 2025). At Netball Australia, we strive to find ways to support communities who often face additional barriers accessing sport, including First Nations Peoples.
- First Nations Tournament, opens in a new tab, (accessed 18 August 2025). Following a successful pilot in 2024, the First Nations Tournament is now a permanent fixture on the national netball calendar. The tournament will feature under-23 aged teams from every state and territory as they compete across five days of competition.
- First Nations national team announces name, opens in a new tab, Netball Australia, (21 May 2024). Netball Australia announced the inaugural First Nations national team’s coaching line-up and team name. Twelve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander netballers from across Australia were invited to represent the First Nations Black Swans at the 2024 Pacific Netball Series, in Meanjin (Brisbane), coached by proud Kamilaroi woman and former Australian Diamonds squad member Ali Tucker-Munro.
New South Wales (NSW)
First Nations Netball, opens in a new tab, Netball NSW, (accessed 13 August 2025). Provides links, information and resources relating to the Reconciliation Action Plan, Events and programs, CARE program, and inclusive resources.
- Cultural Competency and Reflective E-learning (CARE), opens in a new tab. An online tool provided by Netball NSW to provide our netball community a better understanding of Aboriginal culture through storytelling. It aims to create awareness of First Nations netball players’ experiences and how to implement change to promote inclusivity and acceptance within associations, clubs and development pathways.
Koori Netball Tournament, opens in a new tab, NSW Office of Sport, (accessed 13 August 2025). The Koori Netball Tournament is delivered by Charlestown Netball Association, supported by the Office of Sport and Netball NSW. The event attracts Aboriginal Communities from across NSW with an aim of increasing participation of Aboriginal women in sport and recreation in a fun, competitive and inclusive environment.
Queensland
Diamond Spirit, opens in a new tab, Netball Queensland, (accessed 13 August 2025). A capacity-building program delivered in school and community settings, designed to Educate, Engage and Empower First Nations girls, young women and their communities through the power of netball.
- First Nations Advisory Group, opens in a new tab, (accessed 18 August 2025). E stablished to guide and support NQ’s strategic priorities as they relate to participation pathways for First Nations players, coaches and umpires and diversity and inclusion initiatives such as our Reconciliation Action Plan. The aim of the FNAG is to improve the cultural capabilities across netball and improve equity across all levels of our game. The Advisory group will provide expert advice to the NQ Diversity & Inclusion Board Sub-Committee and the NQ Board and management.
Victoria
- Rumbalara Football Netball Club, opens in a new tab (Rumbalara FNC) is an Aboriginal community run sporting club located in Shepparton, Victoria. It is dedicated to strengthening the community and bringing families together through strong vibrant leadership. It is a place of belonging, a place that people of all ages and backgrounds can call their own.
Western Australia
- The Aboriginal Youth Gala Day, opens in a new tab, Netball WA, (accessed 13 August 2025) forms part of one of the key community Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander events in the Netball WA calendar and provides all junior Aboriginal participants with the opportunity to showcase their skills in a competitive environment. This round robin carnival signifies the official commencement of the Netball WA Aboriginal Grassroots Netball Program. It provides an opportunity for all players and coaches from across the state to come together to participate and enjoy the culture and history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in netball.
- NAIDOC Netball Carnival, opens in a new tab, Netball WA, (accessed 13 August 2025) is held annually at the Gold Netball Centre and Matthews Netball Centre (WA). The NAIDOC Netball Carnival is both an opportunity to introduce Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander netballers to competitive netball, as well as a platform to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The age divisions include Suncorp NetSetGO, 12U, 14U, 16U, 18U, four open divisions, and a Mixed and Masters division.

Shooting Stars is an educational program that uses sport and other tools to encourage greater school engagement amongst young Aboriginal girls and women. We empower Aboriginal girls and women in regional and remote communities to make informed choices about their education and employment journey, helping them strive for the stars.
