Tasmanian Institute of Sport (TIS)
Para Unit, opens in a new tab. In 2025, the TIS partnered with Paralympics Australia and the Australian Institute of Sport to implement a national approach to the identification and development of future Paralympic Athletes. As part of the program the TIS offers multi-sport come and try sessions, sampling a different Para Sport each month. Sessions are open to anyone with a disability who would like to sample the sport on offer. They are also offering support to athletes or people interested in becoming a Guide, Pilot of Ramp Operator for athletes classified in Paralympic events.
ParaQuad Tasmania
ParaQuad Tasmania, opens in a new tab. Physical disABILITY Sports Tasmania is a state-wide sport and recreation program facilitated by ParaQuad Tasmania. The program is specifically designed for people with spinal cord injury and physical disability and welcomes all ages and abilities. Activities include Boccia, Frame running, Wheelchair AFL, Wheelchair Basketball, Wheelchair Rugby, Wheelchair Sports in Schools. They also have some grant funding available to support athletes' development.
BodySafe Education Program, opens in a new tab is an interactive and dynamic program carefully aligned with the Australian Curriculum (Health) which discusses prevention of Spinal Cord Injury and physical trauma (such as motor vehicle accidents). Each presenter delivering the program has an acquired spinal cord injury, and while they each reveal a part of their own story within the presentation, the stories are carefully bracketed and simply used as a springboard for students to critically examine key issues.
New Horizons Tasmania
New Horizons Tasmania, opens in a new tab has provided sport, recreational and social opportunities for local people with disability since 1986. The organisation focuses on collaborating with local, state, and national sporting bodies, as well as government agencies, to offer top-notch inclusive sport and recreation programs. We focus on ability rather than disability, fostering an environment where members can explore new activities at their own pace.
