Wheelchair Rugby
Wheelchair rugby, opens in a new tab is a fast-paced, mixed gender sport that is open to participants of all ages with an impairment to their upper and lower limbs. It is the only full contact sport on wheels and combines elements of rugby, basketball, gridiron and handball. Players compete in teams of four on a basketball or netball court to get the ball across the try line. Matches are usually played in eight-minute quarters and each team have 40 seconds to score a try once they have possession. In order to play, all participants are required to have a sport class obtained through a process called classification.
Wheelchair Rugby Australia, opens in a new tab (WRA). WRA is the governing body for the development and growth of the sport of wheelchair rugby in Australia. WRA is dedicated to providing athletes with a disability the opportunity to participate and excel in wheelchair rugby from grassroots to international competition. While the sport was introduced to Australia in the 1980’s, WRA was officially formed as an independent organisation in August 2022.

Caters for physically disabled and able-bodied athletes in the sport of Wheelchair Basketball and Wheelchair Rugby. Reverse Inclusion aims to deliver a truly inclusive sporting opportunity where people of all abilities can play sport together on an equal playing field (court). The importance of access to sport and the benefits of inclusion practices within the wider community are major awareness.
