Canoe/Kayak

Recreational and competitive sport activities involving lightweight boats, pointed at both ends, propelled by paddles.

Canoeing began as a primarily recreational activity and remains so for many Australians. A national body to coordinate canoe/kayak participation was first proposed in 1947, in the lead-up to the Melbourne 1956 Summer Olympic Games, with the Australian Canoe Federation holding its first meeting in September 1949. 1
