Cricket

A sport played on a circular field where teams bat and bowl against each other, scoring runs for their team by running between two sets of wickets.

Cricket was created in England, with it's first reference to it being a sport for adult made in 1611. The sport arrived in Australia in 1788 during colonisation. 1

The first national governing body for cricket, the Australasian Cricket Council, was formed in 1982 as a partnership between New South Wales, South Australian and Victoria. 2

Governing body

Cricket Australia, opens in a new tab is an organisation recognised by government at all levels as the National controlling body for the sport of cricket in Australia.

After their estabilishment in 1892, the Australasian Cricket Council was disbanded in 1899. The Australia Board of Control for International Cricket was established in 1905 as the new governing body.

In 1973, the organisation changed it name to the Australia Cricket Board before renaming to Cricket Australia in 2003.2
