Hockey
Field hockey is a team sport where players use sticks to hit a ball into the opposing team's goal.
Hockey was first introduced in Australia by British Naval officers in the late 1800s. Australia’s first national association, the Australian Women’s Hockey Association (AWHA) was formed in 1910. 1

Governing body
Hockey Australia, opens in a new tab is the organisation recognised by governments at all levels as the national sporting organisation for hockey in Australia.
History
In 1925, the Australian Hockey Association (AHA) was established as the national governing body for men's hockey in Australia.
The Australian Women's Hockey Association was formed in 1940 and, in 1991, changed its name to Women's Hockey Australia.
The AHA and Women's Hockey Australia operated as separate organisations until 2000, when they merged to form Hockey Australia. 1
