Motorcycling

A form of motorsport that involves the use of motorcycles.

Australia’s first, professionally organised motorcycling competition was a speedway racing event at the West Maitland Showground in New South Wales in 1923. 1

An estimated 214,000 Australians [aged 15+] participated in motorcycling at least once in 2025. 2

An estimated 17,000 Australian children [aged 0-14] participated in motorcycling at least once in 2025. 2

An estimated 60,000 Australian women and 153,000 men [aged 15+] participated in motorcycling at least once in 2025. 2

Governing body

Motorcycling Australia, opens in a new tab is the organisation recognised by government at all levels as the national controlling body for the sport of motorcycling in Australia.

The Auto Cycle Council of Australia (ACCA) was established in 1928 to oversee motorcycling as a sport at a national level. The organisation was later renamed Motorcycling Australia in 1992 .1
