Motorcycling

A form of motorsport that involves the use of motorcycles.

Australia’s first motorcycling competition to be professionally organised was a speedway racing event held a race meeting at the West Maitland Showground in NSW in 1923. 1

An estimated 243,000 Australians [aged 15+] participated in motorcycling at least once in 2024. 2

An estimated 27,500 Australian children [aged 0-14] participated in motorcycling at least once in 2024. 2

An estimated 74,000 Australian women [aged 15+] and an estimated 167,500 Australian men [aged 15+] participated in motorcycling at least once in 2024. 2

Governing body

Motorcycling Australia is an organisation recognised by government at all levels as the National controlling body for the sport of motorcycling in Australia.

The Auto Cycle Council of Australia (ACCA) was established in 1928 to oversee motorcycling as a sport at a national level. The organisation was later renamed as Motorcycling Australia in 1992 .1
