AusPlay results
From July 2023 onwards
AusPlay collects national, state and territory data on over 600 different participation sports and activities in Australia and who is participating in them.
In July 2023 AusPlay shifted from phone to online data collection. This major methodological transition introduced a break in the time series and trends re-started with the October 2024 release of inaugural results (2023-24 financial year) from online data collection. Following this, new data will be released every six months.
A new baseline has been established with the 2023-25 data. It cannot be directly compared with figures from 2015-2023.
Latest Release
On 13 November 2025 the Australian Sports Commission released its latest outputs from AusPlay which include:
- A PDF report that looks at lifelong participation in sport.
- Data tables for the 2024-25 financial year.
- An updated data portal, opens in a new tab, which has results from the 2024-25 financial year added.
- An online report on non-playing roles and volunteering, opens in a new tab.
- Eight new sport and physical activity reports.

This report shows a picture of overall involvement in sport and how it changes at different stages of life.

Some results from new questions added in AusPlay’s online questionnaire are not yet available in the data tables due to insufficient sample across one year of data collection (e.g. non-binary gender) or the need for further data review (e.g. volunteer hours).

Scheduled for late April 2026 for data collected January – December 2025.

Sports and activities
The AusPlay Data Portal allows users to explore and analyse survey data from July 2023 onwards through the Power BI platform.
It currently includes data for the 2023-24 financial year, 2024 calendar year and 2024-25 financial year. With two discrete financial years now available, it is possible for year-on-year comparisons to be made from data using the new methodology that was introduced in July 2023.
The Sport and Physical Activity Reports, covering the period from July 2023 onwards, provide a comprehensive analysis of participation demographics and behaviours in Australia. Reports for the top 15 activities were released in May 2025 and a further eight were added in November 2025. More will be published in 2026 as AusPlay’s cumulative sample from online data collection grows over time.
