Biography

By any measure, Warwick Forbes has left an indelible mark on the history of the Australian Institute of Sport. A pioneering athlete in Gymnastics, Forbes won a Commonwealth Games Medal in 1978, followed by a stellar career as the head coach of the Australian Men's Artistic Team and Australian Institute of Sport Men's Artistic Gymnastics program from 1983 to 2014.

After retiring as a gymnastics coach in 2004, Forbes has held several high performance sport management positions with the Australia Institute of Sport, assuming the role of trusted advisor for many HP sports programs. However, it was his instrumental role in establishing the AIS’s European Training Centre (ETC) that has placed Forbes in the pantheon of great sports administrators. The requirements of establishing an overseas training base for Australian athletes in the Province of Varese involved cultural sensitivity, nuanced language skills, and an expert knowledge of the HP requirements of each and every HP sport program visiting. Warwick Forbes helped deliver a unique piece of Australian sporting infrastructure with skill, precision, and statesmanship. This is the Warwick Forbes story.
