New AusPlay data released: Aussies embracing sport for life
The ASC has released new AusPlay data for 2024-25, which includes a look at how we play and connect with organised sport throughout life.

The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) has released new AusPlay data for 2024-25, which includes a look at how we play and connect with organised sport throughout life.
The report ‘Lifelong involvement in sport’ looks at how our sporting habits change as we age and how this and family life shape our broader roles in sport - from coaching and officiating to administration.
This release also marks the first time year-on-year comparisons can be made from data using the new methodology that was introduced in July 2023 and has seen the annual sample size double from 20,000 to 40,000 Australians.
The 2024–25 results show the most popular activities for Australians aged 15+ are walking (recreational), fitness/gym, bush walking, running/jogging and swimming.
More Australian adults are also hitting the court and picking up a fishing rod, with pickleball/padel, pilates, fishing, golf and tennis among the fastest growing physical activities.
New activity reports have also been added for athletics (track and field), badminton, dance (recreational), dancesport, fishing, gymnastics, surfing and table tennis.
The latest AusPlay report, data tables and activity reports are available on the Clearinghouse for Sport.
