Project Steering Group - Terms of Reference

Purpose of the Project Steering Group

The purpose of the Project Steering Group (PSG) is to provide advice on the process of codesign and strategy development to ensure that the diverse perspectives of current and future sport participants are included in all aspects of the project design and delivery.

Role of the Project Steering Group

The role of the PSG will be to:

  • Ensure that all aspects of community sport, and the diverse participation base (current and future) are considered in the project design and implementation.
  • Provide advice and guidance on project design and delivery.
  • Provide a ‘check and challenge’ point in support of the development of the strategy and provide an approval gate for key releases of the strategy.
  • Identify any operational gaps and opportunities for the strategy

Composition of Project Steering Group

The PSG will consist of up to 12 members and will comprise a cross section of Australians that reflect the diversity of the sport participation community now and into the future.

Members will represent metropolitan, regional and rural Australia who bring a diversity of skills, lived experiences. The ASC strongly encourages applications from people with the following backgrounds:

  • Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures
  • Culturally and linguistically diverse
  • LGBTIQ+
  • Those with a disability
  • Different age groups

Individuals will have knowledge, expertise, and insights from within and beyond the sports sector.

PSG Member Responsibilities

Members of the PSG will be asked to:

  • Attend all scheduled meetings
  • Participate constructively in an advisory capacity
  • Provide ideas, advice, and ‘check and challenge’ in support of the development of the National Sport Participation Plan
  • Represent the collective views of a particular topic area where appropriate, in addition to applying personal and professional expertise.

It is proposed that the PSG meet fortnightly, although frequency may vary according to need. Meetings may take the form of online, face-to-face and/or workshops.

ASC Responsibilities

The ASC will:

  • Call for agenda items and set an Agenda to be distributed to PSG members at least 48 hours prior to each meeting
  • Record and distribute the minutes after each PSG meeting
  • Produce a sector communique that will be available publicly on the ASC website and be promoted across the sport sector

Cover all out-of-pocket expenses of PSG members related to their attendance and participation in PSG meetings

Terms of PSG

The PSG will run from the commencement date until the completion of the sector National Sport Participation Plan.

PSG involvement is voluntary, and members are not renumerated.

Amendment, Modification or Variation

This Terms of Reference may be amended, varied or modified in writing by the ASC with agreement of the members of the PSG.
