Sporting Schools is an Australian Government initiative designed to help schools to increase children's participation in sport, and to connect them with community sporting opportunities.
Little Gliders is delivered as a four-session program in school by an external coach. Each lesson is 50 minutes in length.
Session 1 - Introduction to classic skiing, equipment familiarisation, agility, balance and coordination, cross country skiing techniques and games.
Session 2 – Introduction to skating techniques, further agility and coordination challenges, more advanced games.
Session 3 – Increasingly challenging movement situations as students rotate between four Winter Olympic stations; Ski Jumping, Relay, Classic Sprint and Biathlon.
Session 4 - Increased challenge of applying various ski techniques as students rotate around Interschool competition event stations of cross country, alpine, moguls and ski cross.
