Future Green & Gold Talent Transfer

Are you a current or former high-performance athlete ready for a new challenge?

Future Green and Gold – Talent Transfer Portal offers athletes the opportunity to explore a new Olympic or Paralympic sport. If you are a current or recently retired high-performance athlete seeking a new challenge and pathway to success, or just want to find out what is possible, the AIS Future Green & Gold team can assist in exploring your potential.

To be eligible you must meet at least one of the following:

Athletes from Olympic or Paralympic sports may be eligible if you met one or more of the following:

Current or Retired Athletes from Professional Sporting Codes (e.g., AFL, NRL, Super Netball, A-League, etc) 

  • You are/were a categorised athlete, formally recognised by the National Sporting Organisation (NSO) under the National Athlete Categorisation Framework; or 
  • You have represented Australia at an international event (e.g., World Championships, Olympic or Paralympic Games); or 
  • You are/were a level 8 or higher gymnast with state team representation; or
  • You are/were not formally categorised by the National Sporting Organisation (NSO) under the National Athlete Categorisation Framework due to the sports competition environment, pathway, or circumstances (e.g. NCAA or professional sport), but can demonstrate you have the equivalent high-performance experience, competition level, or performance outcomes.

Athletes from professional codes may be eligible if they meet high-performance equivalency criteria, such as:  

  • You are or were recently contracted to a professional team or academy
  • You have participated in elite-level competitions (e.g., AFL, NRLW, WNBL, Super Rugby)  
  • You have competed in recognised feeder competitions (e.g., VFL, NPL, Australian Netball Championships, Q Cup)  
  • You have been selected for national development squads or were identified through a nationally recognised talent development program 

Register Interest

The Talent Transfer Portal takes approximately 15-20 minutes to complete and is designed to build a profile of your athletic strengths and potential. You will be asked about physical testing results, competition history, training background, and future sporting goals - it may be helpful to have this information available before you begin.

Talent Transfer is an opportunity for current and former high-performance athletes to explore the possibility of a high-performance pathway in other sports. It aims to match your physical and competitive profile with sports seeking new athletes like you. 

You must be a current or recently retired high-performance athlete. This includes Nationally Categorised athletes in Olympic or Paralympic sports, or athletes from professional codes (e.g., AFL, NRL, Super Netball) who have competed at elite levels. If you're unsure whether your experience qualifies, we encourage you to complete the registration form, the Future Green and Gold team will review your application and will be in contact to advise you of next steps. 

The AIS Future Green & Gold team will review your profile if you meet the Talent Transfer Portal eligibility criteria will contact you to further explore potential talent transfer opportunities.

No. You can be actively training and competing, on a break, or recently retired. The Portal is open to high-performance athletes at different stages of their athletic journey. 

No, the AIS Future Green & Gold team will contact you first to discuss your options. Your information will only be shared with relevant sports if you provide consent during that conversation.

No. The Talent Transfer Portal is a free service provided by the Australian Institute of Sport to support athletes looking to explore a high-performance pathway in a new sport. 

It depends on your attributes, skills, interests, competitive background and the sports current talent needs. 

Absolutely. You’re in control of your sporting pathway. No information is shared, and no action is taken without your consent. 

There are no guarantees on the opportunity to transfer. Talent transfer opportunities depend on many factors - including your physical attributes, skills, interests, current talent needs and alignment with your experience. However, registering your interest in the Talent Transfer Portal may open doors to conversations and opportunities with sports actively seeking talent

Athletes are responsible for managing their own relocation logistics if they choose to pursue opportunities in a new sport and location. The national sporting organisation will help guide your sporting transition; however, travel, housing and relocation costs are not covered. 

No. Your registration in the talent transfer portal is confidential. Your current sport will not be notified, and your information will only be shared with other sports/stakeholders if you provide consent.

Retirement from your current sport may affect athlete categorisation, funding, and access to services provided by your current national sporting organisation. It will be important to speak directly with your sport to understand the implications for things like registration status, insurance, or eligibility for future selection. However please note that registering your interest in the Talent Transfer Portal does not automatically notify or alter your status with your current sport.
