Elite Sport Education Network
The Elite Sport Education Network is comprised of universities, TAFEs and other education providers committed to supporting elite athletes, coaches and officials.
The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) leads the design and delivery of innovative evidence-informed systems and support that unites and enables athletes, coaches and those working in the high performance system to win well. This is achieved through prioritising the development and delivery of integrated, holistic services and programs that are designed to improve the ability of athletes, coaches and staff to effectively navigate their career in high performance sport and to enable them to achieve sustained success in sport and in life.
High-performance athletes, coaches and officials choose a dual career as a student-sportsperson due to their passion for both their sport and their studies. They are highly committed to making it work, and embrace the challenge of being a high performing athlete and student.
The Elite Sport Education Network (ESEN) was launched in 2025 to meet the the current and future need to collaborate with the tertiary sector on a holistic support network for elite sportspeople engaging in study alongside high-performance sport. ESEN builds on the previous iterations of higher education networks and endorsements through
- Inclusion of high-performance coaches and officials in addition to elite athletes
- Acknowledgment that tertiary institutions provide services, facilities and support programs that enhance student wellbeing beyond academic requirements
- Recognition of the longstanding research collaboration between the AIS and the tertiary sector to understand and improve student-sportsperson experience.
