High performance sport

Uncover the role high-performance sport plays in driving athlete excellence and wellbeing, inspiring communities, and shaping Australia’s national identity.

Australia has a strong history of successful participation in elite sporting events. 2, 3, 4 Success at events such as World Cups and the Olympic and Paralympic Games often lead to increases in national pride and inspiration, as well as general interest in sport engagement. 1 Significant investment from governments, sporting organisations, and individuals (such as parents of athletes) contributes to this success. 5

The Australian High Performance System has committed to a philosophy of 'Winning Well', aiming to ensure that the systems and processes in place are world-leading and creating environments where those who work and compete for Australia can thrive in their careers and beyond. 6

Australia's High Performance 2032+ Sport Strategy (Win Well) is the roadmap to delivering the best outcomes for our athletes, our sports and for all of Australia.
