Organisational barriers and outdated work structures
A cultural and systemic shift towards more flexible and sustainable work practices is needed. 2
- Societal gender norms continue to shape workforce participation, with many women carrying a greater share of caregiving and unpaid household responsibilities, which can affect their capacity to pursue high performance coaching roles. 2
- Structural and resourcing arrangements can create additional challenges for women coaches, including travel requirements and facility configurations that may not always support their participation, particularly in male-dominated sports. 2
- Levels of investment in women's sport can influence the availability of coaching opportunities and career pathways, with female coaches often experiencing lower levels of remuneration than their male counterparts. 2
- Many women coaches value flexible work arrangements, such as part-time roles and job-sharing opportunities. However, these approaches are not yet widely embedded in high performance sport, where traditional models of work remain common. 2
