ACT Sport and Recreation is committed to supporting gender equity on Boards of sport and recreation organisations in the ACT. This commitment extends to ensuring that Board environments value respect and the contribution of women both on and off the field.
Since 2016, the ACT Government has held the expectation that its triennially funded organisations move towards at least 40% representation of women on their Boards. By 2020 and with the support of education and various funding initiatives, ACT State Sporting Organisations met this target. Ongoing assessment of Board representation has continued, including recent categorisation of ACT sport and recreation organisations which included an assessment of compliance with the Sports Governance Standards.
ACT Sport and Recreation will continue to liaise with sport and recreation organisations to encourage their boards to be reflective of the communities they represent, including other sections of the community such as the LGBTIQ community, Culturally And Linguistically Diverse persons, First Nations People and people with a disability. As part of this work, the sector will be supported in meeting the gender equity targets set out by the Gender Equity in Sports Governance Policy.
