The Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing (ORSR) is committed to assisting organisations provide environments where the contribution of women is valued, respected and encouraged by addressing the inequalities of women involved in sport.

As of 1 July 2023, the minimum 40% women in leadership initiative has been implemented to shape the composition of state sport and recreation organisation boards in South Australia.

In order to receive State Sport and Recreation Development Program funding, South Australian state sport and recreation organisations are required to have a minimum of 40% women as a total of the board members, either by election or appointment. Currently 98% of South Australian State Sport Organisations meet the minimum requirement.

ORSR will liaise with the South Australian sport and recreation sector to determine the timelines for implementation of the chair/deputy and sub-committee requirements of the Gender Equity in Sports Governance Policy.
