Football (Soccer)

Football was an Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) scholarship sport from 1981 to 2013.

AIS Men's Football program was one of the original eight AIS sports established in 1981. The aim was to develop youth players for the national league, and national representative squads.

The AIS Women's Football program commenced in 1998. Australia qualified for the 1999 World Cup, and all team members were AIS scholarship holders.

During 2013, the AIS transitioned out of athlete scholarships and sport programs. Responsibility for coaches, athletes and programs was transferred to the principal National Sporting Organisation for football at the time.
