Gymnastics

Gymnastics was an Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) scholarship sport from 1981 to 2012.

Gymnastics was one of the Australian Institute of Sports’ (AIS) original eight founding sports, established in 1981.

The AIS program was based in Canberra from 1981-2010 and offered full time residential scholarships to male and female athletes. In 2011, the AIS Gymnastics Program transition from residential to a camps-based program. The new program provided Australia’s top 20 Men’s and Women’s Artistic gymnasts – known as the AIS/GA Olympic Squads – with regular access to the facilities and service providers at the AIS.

During 2012, the AIS transitioned out of athlete scholarships and sport programs. Responsibility for coaches, athletes and programs was transferred to the principal National Sporting Organisation for gymnastics at the time.
