Water Polo

Water polo was an Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) scholarship sport from 1985 to 2013

The water polo program for male athletes at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) began in 1985 as the tenth sport based at the AIS in Canberra.

The program for female athletes started in 1993 administered from Sydney. The programs were designed to produce players to represent Australia at the international level.

The men's program was discontinued in 2005, with the women's program concluding in 2013 when the AIS transitioned out of athlete scholarships and sport programs.

At the conclusion of these programs, responsibility for coaches, athletes and programs was transferred to the principal National Sporting Organisation for water polo at the time.
