Promoting Lifelong Brain Health in Athletes
15 October 2026
Join Dr David Hughes, AIS Chief Medical Officer, for an education session exploring the findings of a newly published scientific review on lifelong brain health in athletes. Drawing on evidence from neurology, sports medicine, mental health and public health, the session will examine the factors that influence brain health across the lifespan, including concussion and repetitive head trauma, physical activity, mental health, social connection, nutrition, alcohol use, cardiovascular health and lifelong learning.
This presentation will challenge the idea that brain health is solely about concussion or repeated head trauma and highlight the many practical opportunities for athletes, sporting organisations and support staff to promote cognitive wellbeing both during and beyond a sporting career. The session will conclude with an opportunity for questions and discussion.
Presenter: Dr David Huges, Chief Medical Officer, Australian Institute of Sport
