International Talent Identification and Development Conference 2026
The International Talent Identification and Development Conference 2026 will explore Best Practice and Next Practice in identifying and developing high-performance sporting talent

Co-hosted by the Australian Institute of Sport and the Queensland Academy of Sport, this four-day program will be delivered across two locations:
- Canberra (May 4-5): Australia’s capital city and home of the Australian Institute of Sport
- Brisbane (May 8-9): host of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games and home of the Queensland Academy of Sport
Across both locations, leading researchers and practitioners will examine the latest thinking and practice in identifying and developing sporting talent. Guided by the theme of ‘Best Practice - Next Practice’, the conference explores what’s working in sport systems today and what’s emerging for future practice.
The Canberra program spotlights best practice: Current systems, methods and case studies driving success in talent detection, selection, transfer, and development. The Brisbane program will then shift focus to next practice, introducing cutting edge research, innovative thinking, and experimental approaches shaping future practice.
Through keynote presentations, interactive sessions, and cross-sector discussions, this event will bring together evidence and innovation in high-performance sport.
