Introducing Dracademy Juniors, a dynamic and engaging program created specifically for young adventurers aged 10 to 12! This exciting experience offers a fun and safe introduction to the thrilling world of Dragon Boating through a mix of interactive activities, games, and challenges.

Key highlights of the Dracademy Juniors program include:

  • Tailored learning: Dracademy Juniors is specially designed for younger participants, ensuring that each activity is age-appropriate and suitable for their physical and cognitive abilities.
  • Focus on safety: Safety is a top priority in this program. Participants will receive clear instructions and guidance on essential commands, as well as water safety practices, ensuring they develop a strong foundation in safe boating.
  • Encouraging teamwork and camaraderie: The Dracademy Juniors program places a strong emphasis on fostering a sense of teamwork and friendship among its participants. Through collaborative activities, young learners will build strong bonds with their peers while working together toward common goals.

Dracademy is Australian Dragon Boating Federation's, opens in a new tab national junior participation program. The program consists of either 4 x 1-hour, 2 x 2 hour or 1 x 4 hour sessions, delivered at a lake or slow-moving river by a local dragon boat club.

The program is designed for Year 7 and 8 students to learn the basic skills of dragon boating in an experimental manner through a range of activities, challenges, and games. Please note that student/group numbers are based on 20 students able to fit in a dragon boat.

Basic instructions and commands will be taught prior to any activities. An understanding of water safety and its practices will be addressed through the program.

Program goals:

  • Understand water safety and its importance
  • Choose and fit your lifejacket and appropriate clothing for conditions
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge and use of a dragon boat paddle
  • Get into and out of a dragon boat from the shore/landing
  • Dragon boat with a correct posture and setup
  • Maintain balance within the dragon boat
  • Work as part of a team
  • Strengthen relationships
  • Improve water confidence
  • Learn the positions within a dragon boat
