Softball Batter Up

Teacher delivered

All Teacher delivered programs cost $165 including GST per term.

The Softball Batter Up (SBU) Junior Participation Program is the teacher delivered package available to schools. The program includes:

• A digital Coaches and Teachers Resources Pack (Includes a Level One coaching manual, SBU activity cards and access to the SBU Coaching Induction online course).
• A Minimum of four sessions per class conducted by a Teacher Endorsed by Softball Australia to deliver the program.
• Additional equipment, such as the Pre-Made Kits listed below, are available for the school to purchase via Softball Australia’s online store:
  • Basic Kit $365 (incl. GST)
  • Regular Kit $785 (incl. GST)
  • Deluxe Kit $1,255(incl. GST)
  • Competition Kit $1,435 (incl. GST)
  • Build your own – (individual items available through the online store, opens in a new tab)
• Online Accreditation: Teachers conducting programs in their own school MUST complete the Softball Batter Up Coaching Induction , opens in a new tab(Teachers are only required to complete this course once, not every time a softball program is booked).
• A FREE online resource library, opens in a new tab, with pre-made lessons and activities for bands F-6 in alignment with Australian Health & Physical Education Curriculum, is available through the SBU website.

There are many Softball Batter Up packages available including teacher and coach delivered options.

Coach delivered programs:

The coach delivered package includes:

• A Minimum of four sessions per class conducted by a Softball Australia endorsed provider to deliver the program.
• $88.00 (incl. GST) per session is the Softball Australia recommended cost. Please note: Quote will vary depending on the provider.
• Additional equipment, such as the Pre-Made Kits listed below, are available for the school to purchase via Softball Australia’s online store:

This kit includes competition grade alloy bats, gloves, and ‘hard’ balls for senior grades to prepare for inter-school competition. The Competition Kit also includes catching gear and helmets for game-play scenarios.

PLEASE NOTE: Both Left and Right-hand model gloves are included in the kits outlined above. 

RHT Gloves = Right hand thrower – the player throws with their right hand and the glove is made to fit the left hand. Players learn to catch with their non-preferred hand and throw with their stronger hand.

LHT Gloves = Left hand thrower – the player throws with their left hand and the glove is made to fit the right hand. Players learn to catch with their non-preferred hand and throw with their stronger hand.

Teachers

To deliver Softball as a teacher in primary schools, you need to meet the requirements below:

• Hold a valid state and/or territory teacher registration
• Be employed at the school
• Confirm adequacy of insurance
• Must complete the Softball Batter Up (SBU) Coaching Induction , opens in a new tab course.
• Must complete the Community Coaching Essential Skills | Australian Sports Commission (ausport.gov.au) course (a pre-requisite requirement of the SBU Coaching Induction course)

Coaches

To deliver Softball as a coach, you need to meet the below requirements -

• Registered in OfficialsHQ as a coach and connected to a provider, SSO or NSO
• Be aged 16 years or over
• Hold a current Working with Children Check (paid check) or relevant exemption
• Confirm adequacy of insurance
• Agree to Coach terms and conditions
• Must complete the Softball Batter Up (SBU) Coaching Induction , opens in a new tab course.
• Must complete the Community Coaching Essential Skills | Australian Sports Commission (ausport.gov.au) course (a pre-requisite requirement of the SBU Coaching Induction course)

To deliver on behalf of Softball Australia, coaches need to:

• Be connected to an endorsed provider, SSO or NSO in OfficialsHQ

Coaching Providers

To deliver Softball as a provider organisation, you need to meet the below requirements -

• Register as a provider in OfficialsHQ
• Hold a valid ABN or declare ABN exempt
• Confirm adequacy of insurance
• Agree to Provider Guidelines and Provider organisation terms and conditions
• Meet safety assessment (as determined by the NSO)

To be an endorsed provider for Softball and deliver on behalf of Softball Australia, providers must also meet the requirements below:

• Agree to Memorandum of Understanding with NSO/SSO

NOTE: All coaches that deliver under any provider must be registered and meet coach registration minimum requirements

Softball Australia Resources

The Softball Batter Up program resources are designed to be fun, flexible and engaging for children from kindergarten age to Year 6, focusing on fun activities while learning basic throwing, catching and striking skills.

Softball Batter Up activities align with the national health and physical education curriculum and are written with coaches and teachers in mind.

Detailed information is provided on the learning intention, band levels, and skill focus of each activity. There are also questions to encourage participant engagement. Coaches and teachers can access these resources for free when they register online, opens in a new tab.
