Sporting Schools is an Australian Government initiative designed to help schools to increase children's participation in sport, and to connect them with community sporting opportunities.
Taekwondo Kickstarters offers an enjoyable introduction to martial arts for children of all abilities.
The program provides children with their first taste of Taekwondo, fostering confidence, focus, and physical discipline applicable across various aspects of their lives.
Primary school students benefit greatly from honing fundamental movement skills and enhancing physical literacy. Offering a holistic approach to health and wellbeing that supports child development and lifelong physical activity, Taekwondo Kickstarters uniquely focuses on:
Expanding physical literacy
Taekwondo involves a wide range of movements, including kicks, blocks, and stances. Through Taekwondo, children can develop their physical literacy by improving their coordination, balance, agility, and overall body awareness.
Active sessions that keep the body moving
Participating in Taekwondo can have positive effects on a child's social and emotional well-being. Learning in a group setting fosters teamwork, camaraderie, and a sense of belonging. Additionally, setting and achieving goals in Taekwondo can boost self-confidence and self-esteem.
Promotes social and emotional health
Engaging in Taekwondo sessions during school hours provides an opportunity for children to be physically active. Regular physical activity is crucial for maintaining good health, and Taekwondo provides a dynamic and enjoyable way to achieve this.
Supports anti-bullying and wellness
Taekwondo places a strong emphasis on discipline, respect, and empathy towards others. By instilling these values, the program can help create a positive and respectful school environment, thus supporting anti-bullying efforts. Moreover, Taekwondo's focus on overall wellness can encourage students to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
“Taekwondo offers all the same fun and fitness as many other sports but it is underpinned by a series of tenets that form a whole approach to life. They include courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit.”
Ben Exton, Participation Manager, Australian Taekwondo
