Completing University
The AIS works with universities to provide support for elite athletes, coaches and officials while studying.
Many universities offer an Elite Athlete Program (EAP), underpinned by a dedicated staff contact to support student-sportspeople during their time at university. EAP Managers use best endeavours, and provide advocacy, to help navigate academic studies, and access services:
- Advice and guidance on academic planning
- Support in negotiating necessary flexibility to meet academic requirements
- Support in negotiating and/or implementing cross institutional study or credit transfer arrangement
EAP members work with NSO / NIN Athlete Wellbeing and Engagement Managers and relevant personnel from sporting organisations.
Academic planning and flexibility
Universities may have policies or procedures to help elite sportspeople succeed academically, such as:
- Assessment flexibility - alternate assessment deadlines and timetables
- Enrolment flexibility - such as timetabling and study loads
- Course related flexibility - online materials, notes for missed lectures, tutorials or practicals
Course entry
Some institutions may offer adjustments to selection ranks for entry into university.
Facilities
Elite athletes may gain access to on-campus gyms or specialised sport facilities.
Engagement with your EAP
Most universities will require students to apply to be a verified member of their Elite Athlete Program to access the flexible arrangements and support available. Each institution has different application processes and requirements. We encourage you to make contact with the EAP coordinator at your institution of choice.
