Commissioner for Children and Young People

The South Australian Commissioner for Children and Young People, opens in a new tab is an independent position, established under the Children and Young People (Oversight and Advocacy Bodies) Act 2016. The purpose of the legislation was to create a statutory officer that has powers and functions to promote and advocate for the rights, interests and wellbeing of all children and young people living in South Australia and to help bring about improvements to the systems that negatively impact on them most.

  • Becoming a Child Friendly Sports Club, opens in a new tab, (2022). Sporting clubs and organisations can use this guide to identify and resolve any issues experienced by members of the club to provide welcoming and child friendly environments.
  • More than a game: what do children and young people think about sport?, opens in a new tab Project report No.31, (June 2022). The aim of this report is to bring children and young people’s voices to the fore in a way that will support change being made to the cultural conditions and infrastructure that currently surround sport and physical activity in South Australia. Doing so will encourage greater and ongoing participation from children and young people because they will have had input into what services and infrastructure needs to be delivered and where.
